Maintain adequate inventory of in process material at work stations

Essential Functions

  • Insures in shop housekeeping including: skid/pallet removal, parts routing, sweeping and rubbish removal.
  • Understand parts routing to accomplish material movement within Manufacturing and Assembly Department.
  • Company vehicle driver to deliver and pick-up components and material as necessary.
  • Operates “chip slinger” to process machined turnings for reclaim.
  • Demonstrates ability to help in maintenance, assembly and machine shop for simple tasks.
  • Assists in removing and separating scrap.

  • Required High School diploma and/or trade school.
  • Must possess a valid driver license with a good driving record.

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Assemble/disassemble valves. Determine probable cause(s) for valve “fail” at test and accomplish all that is required to collect data, part marking and/or corrective action as outlined with in the procedures or by the supervisor

Essential Functions

  • Visually quality check foundry and machining defects.
  • Accomplishes component assembly and testing with no supervision.
  • Capable of operating overhead hoists, forklifts in a safe manner.
  • Extensive experience using pressure test equipment; air and hydro from 100-9000PSI.
  • Good working knowledge of valve figure numbers.
  • Ability to identify component parts by part marking or number.
  • Obtain a highly effective rate of reliability at assembly and test.
  • Recognize trouble and minimize product, tool and machine trouble.
  • Ability to use basic math skills and manual dexterity
  • Knowledgeable with reading blueprints, plans, and specifications to understand the requirements of products  
  • Experience with use of inspection and measurement tools.
  • Measure product dimensions, examine functionality and compare the final product to the specifications
  • Responsible for quality of work.
  • Capable of completing supporting paperwork efficiently

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

The Buyer manages orders, supply chain flow, inventories, and reporting. This position is also responsible for determining the procurement needs to fulfill customer order requirements including the expedition of orders.

Essential Functions

  • Issue Purchase Orders
  • Participate in Project Contract reviews.
  • Support Plant MRO purchases within Budget monitoring closely.
  • Update order/cost changes in System
  • Manage Domestic Freight for our Ohio-Texas-South Carolina Operations.
    • LTL and FTL costs – review LTL contract rates annually
    • Flatbed sources
    • Air Freight sources
    • Maintain matrix of primary contacts, phone, email, etc.
    • Stay in communication with freight reps and Powell personnel in our South Carolina plants regarding any and all issues.
      • Send out quarterly surveys to the Plants for feedback.
    • Purchase all parts for our South Carolina Operations.
      • Maintain matrix of vendors, primary contacts, phone, email, etc.
      • Work with manufacturing/engineering on production process (for example changing part from being cast to produce from rod material)
      • Make visits to plant(s) for face-to-face communications and product viewing/training when necessary.
      • Track South Carolina Environmental needs – Review with Plant Managers.
      • Continuously analyze costs and lead times on raw materials, valve components, and packaging/shipping materials
      • Manage vehicle maintenance (Forklifts/Trucks/Vans etc.)
    • Follow up on orders and acceptance of orders – Send out reminders every 2 days until acceptance is received
    • Expedite orders as needed
    • Support Resolution of Quality Issues
    • Provide solutions relating to purchase orders, including over-shipments, missed shipments and procedural issues to assure required materials are delivered on time as needed at the best cost, and to maintain inventory as low as possible.
    • Work with plant & other departments as needed
    • Study market prices, trends and manufacturing developments, advise company on potential opportunities to optimize cost, production and customer fulfillment.
    • Create various reports including on-time deliveries, freight, inventory

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Two (2) or more years related experience or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • Ability to organize a project with multiple issues and a deadline.
  • Must have advanced experience with working on computers and using Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word and AS400 a plus.

Physical Requirementse

Low physical effort required to sit for extended periods, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk. Average lift is less than 10 lbs. This position requires the ability to use a keyboard, monitor, and phone; and the ability to communicate verbally with others.

Travel: 10% as needed.

Essential Functions

  • Set up and operate a variety of machines to produce/modify precision parts. Includes applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Time Management of one's own time and the time of others.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • The ability to adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions quickly and repeatedly.
