Inside Sales Representative
  • Classification:Hourly, Non-Exempt
  • Reports To:Sales Manager
  • Location:Cincinnati, Ohio

Job Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

As an Inside Sales Representative, you will work with customers to ensure a smooth sales process. You will demonstrate excellent customer service and professionalism with both external and internal customers. You will provide detailed follow up to quotes and orders. You will develop leads and seek opportunities to present additional products to customers and develop new customer leads. You will work closely with the Outside Sales Representatives.

Essential Functions

  • Confer with customers by phone regarding the information about products and services, take or cancel orders or obtain details of complaints.
  • Provide outside sales with consistent communication and quotations updates, backorder report, collections issues and weekly agenda.
  • Provide accurate information on quotations and follow up with the customers.
  • Solicit new or organic growth and maintain monthly forecasts by product line.
  • Maintain and become involved in 60 day collection reports to help collect all past due amounts as needed.
  • Work with Sales Manager to identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities that will increase efficiencies within the sales team and enhance overall customer satisfaction.
  • Maintain customer database and develop new leads.
  • Follow-up with customers (internal and external).
  • Answer calls from customers and support outside sales.
  • Ensure orders are entered in the system correctly.
  • Prepare reports as needed.
  • Check to ensure that appropriate changes or charges were made to the customer order.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Associates Degree with at least 1 year experience in sales, preferably within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and situations with professionalism.
  • Must be proficient with Excel and Word. AS400 a plus.
  • Must display above average organizational skills with computer files and follow up.
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Strong work ethic with a “make it happen” attitude.

Physical Requirementse

Low physical effort required to sit for extended periods, stand at files, bend, stoop, lift, and walk. Average lift is less than 5 lbs. This position requires the ability to use a keyboard, monitor, and phone; and the ability to communicate verbally with others.

Inside average office environment with average office noise levels. No personal protective equipment required.

Set up and operate a variety of machines to produce/modify precision parts. Includes applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures

Essential Functions

  • Set up and operate a variety of machines to produce/modify precision parts. Includes applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
  • Machine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
  • Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.
  • Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.
  • Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.
  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines.
  • Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.
  • Determine the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
  • Determine causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Time Management of one's own time and the time of others.
  • The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.

Essential Functions

  • Ability to read, interpret and follow associated documentation to accomplish stores, shipping and/or receiving with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to recognize product and components to prevent incorrect storage, receiving or shipment.
  • Ability to use all equipment within the work area including: scales, weight charts, packing equipment, etc.
  • Understands, uses and completes necessary documentation including to stock, from stock, adjustments, and receivers.
  • Capable of using fork truck, load, and unload trucks.
  • Assist QC department in counting and identifying incoming material.
  • Complete repetitive tasks with no attention, quality or productivity loss.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Can fill in SPC data collection forms with little or no assistance.

Responsible for all shipping/receiving functions and to work in a manufacturing environment in a safe manner.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for all shipping/receiving functions including but not limited to: scheduling transportation, loading/unloading materials, receiving and shipping documents, tagging, purchase order processing, computer processing and related supplies.
  • Daily computer billing and computer tracking
  • Hold daily huddles with team so that each employee has clear daily expectations.
  • Foster team and individual employee growth, including new employee hires, training, evaluations and cross training.
  • Operates with the highest safety standards and enforces them with self and staff. 
  • Complies with Foreign Trade Zone Regulations
  • Know, understand and suggest updates as needed with all company policies and procedures including ISO procedures.
  •  Responsible for Inventory control: continuously account for all materials while making sure shelves are stocked and organized.
  • Highly efficient lines of communication with all departments and key personnel such as schedulers, assembly, maintenance to produce parts in a timely economic manner.
  • Responsible for the pulling, packaging, verification and shipment in support of Powell’s On-Time delivery commitment.
  • Cleanliness of work area is a must

  • Background in shipping including associated procedures and documentation necessary.
